Artist’s Bio

Jane Metcalfe was born in NZ and came to Australia over thirty years ago. On moving to the Sunshine Coast Jane has concentrated on furthering her painting. Her paintings are not, however, exclusively of the Sunshine Coast.

She is an emerging artist with a particular love of seascapes and water, but has painted diverse subject matters (view her sold paintings to see the range). Jane is a believer in life-long learning and attends workshops (both Plein Air and studio), or takes online courses to continue to broaden her skills and diversity.

Jane works predominantly with oil paint and a mix of palette knife and brush work. Some are mixed media (acrylic and oil), as well as pen and wash.

"The thing I hope for most is that people feel engaged with the pieces I paint. It brings me much enjoyment to create each piece and I put my all into them. I focus on creating texture, movement, depth and light in each work. This usually means doing several passes which gives them their unique characteristics” Jane said.
